Dead Or Alive 5 Brings Back Helena, Lisa To The DOA Tournament

By

It was pretty much guaranteed that we would see Helena and Lisa returning in Dead or Alive 5, but it’s a welcome thing to see some new screenshots of the two in action. Aside from that, new gameplay trailers have been released by Tecmo Koei.

For those you who follow the story, Helena Douglas is currently running the Dead or Alive Tournament Executive Committee (DOATEC), that company that sponsors the titular tournament.

Lisa Hamilton is a bit more eccentric in comparison to the rest of the cast (except Zack and Bass), pulling double duty as both a former scientist for DOATEC and currently-working luchadora.

As far as tag battles, Lisa pairs up well up Tina Armstrong (they’re both wrestlers) while Helena’s special brand of kung-fu makes her team-ups with Lei Fang very effective. Tecmo Koei also notes that this is more or less how the characters will play in the final product, so what you’re seeing is the polished combat engine at full throttle.

Additionally, the dev team broke down the changes for each fighter:

[Lisa] doesn’t simply come straight at you, so if you’re not used to her actions, you have no idea what to expect. She also has a lot of strikes with long reach, making her good at mid-range offense, but now she has moves that come from runs and runs that comes from other moves, so she is way more active this time around.

Helena is an extremely technical character. We’re trying to balance her to please the technical fighters who can appreciate the skill it takes to bring out the “real Helena.”

Check the screenshots and footage below to see how they look in-game, but if you’re at work, you might want to turn down the volume a few notches. Just by the audio, it doesn’t exactly sound like a fight.
