Tecmo Koei has announced that it will release a free-to-play version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate on PlayStation 3.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters will be offered as a digital download via the PlayStation Store. The publisher added that an Xbox 360 version is “possible.” It will include the “core game,” including all game modes–except Story mode–with four characters to play as: Kasumi, Ayane, Ryu Hayabuse, and Hayate.

A further 25 characters will be available via microtransactions, priced at $3.99 per character. Story mode is also available to purchase for $14.99. The game’s multiplayer is completely unlimited with players able to fight with their unlocked characters against both free-to-play and retail owners.
