Capcom has revealed that Dead Rising 3 will feature missions exclusive to Xbox SmartGlass users, so if you haven’t already downloaded the app we suggest you do so before November.
Executive producer Josh Bridge revealed that the companion app will link to the game and replicate the in-game phone on your screen, allowing you to receive calls from a new character who will offer you exclusive missions.
“After you launch the [SmartGlass] app, it notices that Dead Rising is currently being played, press a button, and in kicks our phone. It actually skins your phone to be like the phone from the game’s universe,” he told Siliconera.
During the main campaign ”you’ll get calls from a character that are only on the SmartGlass device. So if you don’t have SmartGlass, you won’t get those calls from that guy. Which also means you won’t get those missions,” Bridge explained.
However, these missions are not connected to the main story, so you can still enjoy the game if you choose not to use the app. ”His storyline is his own. And it interweaves with the main storyline. Without it, you’re not losing out on what the story is. But you’re getting more out of the game,” said Bridge.
Dead Rising 3 is due to release exclusively on Xbox One in November.
