Sorry, Frank—there will be no co-op option available for Dead Rising 4‘s story mode.
On a recent ExpertZone livestream, David McAnerin, a producer for Dead Rising 4, revealed that there will be no campaign co-op for the title. During the stream, a fan question came in asking about co-op modes.
“So, in the story mode, it’s a single player story mode, you’re going to play just as Frank,” McAnerin replied. “We want to really focus on telling Frank’s story. We think he’s a really interesting character and it’s really exciting to bring him back.”
As Dead Rising 4 in large part revisits the staples of Dead Rising 1—featuring as it does the return of Frank West to Willamette, Colorado—perhaps it makes sense that it also returns to a story mode without co-op. Yet, the announcement is still a bit of a surprise, as the opportunity to slay zombies with friends has been around since Dead Rising 2. It’s important to note, however, that the game does support co-op for modes outside of the campaign.
“The four player co-op is our multiplayer mode,” McAnerin clarified. “It’s a little bit inspired by the original Infinity mode for the old-school fans. You go into the mall and take part in crazy missions, trying to survive.”
