During EA’s fiscal year 2012 financial call, Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen stated that both Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3 failed to meet sales expectations.
While Jorgensen didn’t mention any specific sales figures, NPD informed Joystiq that Dead Space 3 sales were lower than Dead Space 2’s—a game that sold two times as much as the original.
“Dead Space 3 units sales were only two percent lower than Dead Space 2,” NPD told Joystiq.
Concern over Dead Space 3’s sales led to rumor and speculation about the fourth installment being cancelled. EA denied this, and in early March, an EA spokesperson told joystiq, While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA.”
I’m personally bummed to hear that Crysis 3 didn’t do as well as hoped. Super good game—I highly recommend sci-fi/FPS fans give it a whirl. My only complaint about the game is that the writing isn’t as strong as Crysis 2’s, but the absence of Richard K. Morgan will do that for a game.
