THE BUZZ: Tequila Works?a development group made up veteran creators from the gaming industry?today officially unveiled their first project, Deadlight.
EGM’s TAKE: So, Tequila Works has an interesting pedigree: The developer, based out of Madrid, Spain, is comprised of people who have worked at such companies as Blizzard Entertainment, Weta Digital, Sony Computer Entertainment, Pyro Studios, MercurySteam Entertainment, and Triumph Studios.
For this first project, they’ve decided to join up with Microsoft Studios, who will be publishing Deadlight exclusively for Xbox Live Arcade this summer.
Here’s the description for Deadlight:
In an apocalyptic world where existence is futile, a solitary man treks the American west coast. The year is 1986 and a mysterious disease has decimated mankind, transforming people into killer automatons. Survival is the measure of all in this original cinematic puzzle platformer. Deadlight is the frightening odyssey of an ordinary man fighting extinction like a flame in the desert. Hopeless and unable to escape the horrors of a dying world, Randall Wayne will reveal himself as a natural born survivor.
From that description and the screens, Deadlight is looking and sounding pretty darn interesting. In recent years, there have been attempts to do some new and daring things with the side-scrolling platformer genre, and this game looks like it could indeed continue that trend. The shot of the zombie-filled town with the player standing on the roof of a truck?you don’t see shots like that for these types of games usually.
So, Deadlight might definitely be one to keep an eye on.
