Death Stranding is already pretty stacked with male actors. The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus, famed director Guillermo del Toro, and Mads Mikkelsen from Hannibal and Casino Royale are all playing fairly major roles in the game (from what we can tell), with video game staples like Emily O’Brien and Troy Baker also very likely to appear in the game, at least vocally. Now it looks like one more celebrated actress will be playing a role in Death Stranding, according to at least one internet sleuth.

YouTuber YongYea has pieced together some evidence which may suggest that Diane Kruger from Inglorious BasterdsThe BridgeTroy, and the National Treasure movies will be starring as the female lead in Death Stranding.

The first piece of evidence that YongYea notes is that Death Stranding seems to be set in France, due to some recognizable lampposts, while some of the background chatter heard in one of the trailers is German. Kruger is a German-born actress who can speak French.

A second piece of evidence is that Kruger calls both Kojima and film director Fatih Akin “legends” in an Instagram photo taken at the Japanese premiere of Akin and Kruger’s film In the Fade. YongYea interprets Kruger’s connection of Akin and Kojima as “legends” to mean that she’s worked with both directors, though she has only officially worked with Akin. Kojima’s personal assistant also tweeted about gifting Akin and Kruger Death Stranding merchandise.

A third piece of evidence is another Instagram photo in which Kruger showed her hand in a motion-capture glove that is exactly the same glove worn by Reedus while mo-capping for Death Stranding.

However, one of the supposed pieces of evidence that YongYea might have actually debunked his own theory. A photo showing Kojima, his assistant, Reedus, and Kruger all hanging out could actually explain all of these weird connections between Kruger and Kojima: Kruger is dating Reedus.

Apparently, Kruger met Kojima while Reedus was either working on the trailer for the now-dead Silent Hills (RIP) or while Reedus was working on Death Stranding. Not only does this explain how Kruger knows Kojima and why he’d want to say hello at the Japanese premiere of her movie, but it could also explain why Kruger was wearing a mo-cap glove, in that she could have been visiting Reedus on set. The photo of Reedus in mo-cap and Kruger in mo-cap are a year apart, so it’s possible she did sign on to act in Death Stranding between then, but the evidence is far from definitive.

Hey, I want Kruger to appear in Death Stranding as much as anybody. I’m just saying, YongYea might be making a few logical leaps in his video, that’s all. Judge for yourself:

And while some skepticism is probably healthy here, it’s also worth noting that a very similar trail of clues outed Mads Mikkelsen’s work on the game before any official announcement. Maybe history is repeating itself here.

We know very little about Hideo Kojima’s mysterious new game other than that it involves thematic ropes and sticks and a really crazy version of a game over screen. And also a fetus giving a thumbs up. Hopefully we’ll find out more at E3 2018, as it’s apparently already playable, at least in part.

Death Stranding is in development for the PlayStation 4.

Internet sleuths might have figured out Death Stranding’s female lead

Though this theory is far from certain, we've seen Death Stranding speculation like this come true before.
