German media enterprise Koch media today announced their acquisition of the Homefront IP and Homefront: The Revolution’s development team from Crytek.
Crytek likewise announced they’ve shuttered Crytek UK, the studio developing Homefront: The Revolution, and are restructuring its American office in Austin, Texas, moving much of that studio’s responsibilities to Crytek Frankfurt.
This news follows a report from earlier this week in which Crytek finally acknowledged their financial struggles but claimed they were now on better footing.
“As we look to cement Crytek’s future, this strategic deal with Koch Media would allow us to continue with our ambitious goals to become an online publisher,” Crytek founder and CEO Cevat Yerli explained in a prepared statement. “With Warface, Arena of Fate and Hunt, we believe we have the perfect portfolio and teams to make that happen. We would like to thank all our staff—past and present—in both Nottingham and Austin for their contributions to the company, and we wish all the very best to anyone who may no longer be under the Crytek banner moving forward.”
Crytek’s other studios across Europe and Asia will look to continue to operate as usual.
Meanwhile, many of the employees who worked at the now defunct Crytek UK will join Dambuster Studios, the new studio Deep Silver founded in Nottingham solely to finish Homefront: The Revoltution and continue with the franchise’s future going forward.
“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe,” said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media Group in a statement about the acquisition. “We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years.”
Dambuster Studios marks the third development studio under Koch Media now, joining Deep Silver Volition and Deep Silver Fishlabs.
Homefront: The Revolution is still expected to launch across Xbox One, PS4, and PC sometime 2015.
