Deep Silver Denies Spec Ops Developer Is Working On Dead Island Sequel
Posted on May 18, 2012 AT 03:06pm

Could a sequel to Techland’s open-world zombie game Dead Island come at some point? Absolutely. Publisher Deep Silver, however, is denying any such game is currently in the world by Spec Ops developer Yager.
IGN Germany posted a story up stating that supposedly Yager Development would be working on such a sequel after they finished up Spec Ops: The Line. However, development director Guido Eickmeyer from Deep Silver then sent the following statement to the US side of IGN:
“We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point. Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on personal and professional connections between the parties. There is a legitimate chance that we will – at some point – work together on a title – and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise. We have the greatest respect for this team, we absolutely love what we have seen so far from SpecOps – and we are constantly discussing potential opportunities. However, we have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners.”
Now, does this mean that a Dead Island sequel isn’t currently in the works? Of course not—companies deny unannounced projects all the time. Plus, that last line—”in concept or production with external partners”— doesn’t exclude every possibility there is for the game being in some stage of production at this very moment.
