THE BUZZ: Atlus USA today announced that they have decided to do another server extension for their cult classic release Demon’s Souls, From Software’s brutal action adventure title that is the precursor to the soon-to-be-released Dark Souls. This isn’t the first time that Atlus has extended their commitment to keeping the game’s online servers up, allowing adventurers to continue having the opting to not only communicate with other players, but also invade their world with the intent of helping them as an ally or hunting them as a foe.

“While it comes at significant cost to us and although it has been over two years since the game revolutionized the notion of multiplayer and online functionality in an RPG,” said Atlus PR manager Aram Jabbari. “Our commitment to the game and the fans that turned it into an incredible success remains as strong as ever. While the reality is that one day the servers will ultimately close due to operation and maintenance costs, that day is not today, nor will it be this year.”

EGM’s TAKE: With the release of Dark Souls nearly upon us, it’s great to see Atlus commit to continuing to support the online functions of Demon’s Souls. While the game is still completely enjoyable offline, the various elements that intertwine the single-player portion of the game with the multiplayer options are what helped to make the experience as exciting as it was. The day Demon’s Souls servers go offline will be a sad day indeed.

THE BUZZ: Atlus USA today announced that they have decided to do another server extension for their cult classic release Demon’s Souls, From Software’s brutal action adventure title that is the precursor to the soon-to-be-released Dark Souls.
