Déraciné, the mysterious PlayStation VR game from Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan and FromSoftware, is launching on November 6th, according to a recent blog post.
According to producer Masaaki Yamagiwa, Déraciné is a “classic adventure game brought to life by VR technology.” Much of the gameplay will involve exploring an “old secluded boarding school” in a “world where time stands still” and piecing together clues that will steadily reveal a larger story at play.
Déraciné surprised me for a few reasons when PlayStation debuted it at E3 2018. First off, it’s a PSVR game by FromSoftware, so that was unexpected. Second, knowing FromSoftware, the fact that it didn’t include difficult boss fights and blood-soaked, gothic scenery was a shock.
Being able to walk around a From world in virtual reality is enough to pique my interest, even if we won’t be running into the likes of Havel the Rock. The worlds of Yharnam, Lordran, and Lothric are some of the most evocative and memorable in video games, so seeing what the FromSoftware team can do with a VR setting is a pretty exciting prospect.
Déraciné will cost $29.99. You can preorder the digital version on the PlayStation Store or the physical disc version exclusively at GameStop. Preordering nets you a new PS4 theme and some new avatars. Keep in mind that PlayStation Move controllers are required to play it.
