Despite the raid lair for Destiny 2‘s Warmind expansion not launching until later this week, data miners have possibly uncovered significant details about its story.
Spoiler warning: The details pulled from the data mine of Warmind contain elements of the raid lair’s story. Guardians that want to experience Spire of Stars spoiler-free will have to wait until it launches on Friday, May 11th.
In a recent thread on the Destiny 2 subreddit, user TheEcumene shared a collection of audio files data mined from the game’s May 8th patch. Since the Warmind DLC was a significant portion of the update, the audio files were directly connected to the new plot awaiting Guardians. Apart from several interesting new pieces of lore, the major revelation discovered was that the enemy found in the upcoming Spire of Stars raid lair might not be the Hive.
The Reddit user was able to unearth 56 lines of dialogue for the Leviathan master, Calus, which teased Guardians might have to face off against Cau’ul and the Red Legion. In particular, Calus says “Guardians, deal with this menacing interloper,” and “you no longer amuse me, Cau’ul.” Other lines of dialogue suggest players will be tasked with defending the true form of Calus and his Leviathan realm in Spire of Stars. Guardians will recognize Calus as the final boss of the main Leviathan raid. However, fireteams encountered a robotic version of the emperor in the raid.
While it’s possible that the Red Legion will be the main enemy faction in the upcoming raid lair, it should still be considered speculation. It’s unclear if all lines of dialogue that were data-mined will be heard in the formal release of the expansion, so it’s possible Guardians could see Spire of Stars play out differently than expected.
The remaining audio files reveal random details about Warmind, including more background on one of the featured characters in the DLC, Rasputin. There’s even a clever nod to the EDZ’s Lost Sector, The Weep, which was a popular place for Guardians to farm Faction Tokens in season two.
The Warmind expansion is now available as a digital download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, which means Guardians can dive into a large amount of new content. Apart from the new campaign, players will be able to experience a unique survival mission on Mars, earn new weapons and armor, and a battle to be the best in the Crucible ranking system.
Destiny 2 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
