Destiny

The promised reveal trailer for Destiny 2 has arrived, setting the stakes for the sequel and confirming some key details about the game.

This big reveal was teased by an earlier teaser trailer that starred the Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6 as he recounted his version of the attack on the Tower. The new trailer doesn’t deviate far from this format, depicting battle speeches from both the Titan and Hunter Vanguards as they attempt to rally the troops in their own unique ways.

A notable absence from the new trailer was any actual gameplay. The trailer was instead solely focused on story, revealing the name of the main villain—Ghaul—and even explaining why everyone’s past gear is now toast. Bungie is aware of the community’s desire for gameplay, and released a statement via blog post following the trailer:

“At this moment, our focus is the story we’re telling in Destiny 2. Up next, we’ll take a look at the gameplay. Your first opportunity to see Guardians in action will happen on May 18. We hope to have you all in the audience for the gameplay reveal livestream.”

The Bungie.net post also officially confirms an upcoming beta for the shooter, set to drop this summer for any players that preorder the game. A separate post on the PlayStation blog suggests that the beta will eventually open for everyone after those who have preordered have had a go.

“Players who pre-order Destiny 2 will be the first to jump into action, but we’ll be calling on all Guardians to give their feedback.”

Players have numerous options when it comes to preordering, with the variety of special editions now detailed on the official Destiny website. The special editions also confirm an Expansion Pass for the game, which includes two expansions, although there will likely be more down the line.
