Bungie has finally unveiled the name and release date for Destiny 2‘s next story expansion.
On May 8th, the beginning of the shooter’s third season, players will be able to jump into the Warmind expansion. According to Bungie’s latest blog post, the DLC will “send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies.”
While the reveal announcement doesn’t include any specific details about what to expect from the expansion, the developer confirmed a livestream will take place on April 24th. In turn, Guardians should get a little more insight into these new heroes and enemies that have been teased.
While we’ve known Expansion II would be arriving in May, the developer has been quiet about its name and specific release date. For the past several months, though, alleged leaks have been popping up with various names and launch dates for the DLC. The most recent and believable rumor came from purported Amazon and GameStop listings, which referenced the expansion as The Fallen Warmind and a May 8th launch. While only part of the name turned out to be accurate, the release date matched up well. However, Bungie itself also recently outed the date by accident in a post on its French blog for Destiny 2.
Apart from the long-awaited Expansion II announcement, the developer’s latest blog post also contained an update content roadmap. Previously, the developer’s roadmap only detailed new content planned for the game through May, but as you can see in the new map below, we can now see content planned through to September.
A majority of the plans seem to be updates to old systems, but there are a few intriguing additions. According to the map, a new seasonal event will arrive this summer, as well as something called “gear collections” in the Fall. As with most promises on the map, though, these pieces of content could be delayed or scrapped at any point.
Destiny 2 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
