Destiny

When Destiny officially launches this September it will have a soft level cap of 20, but it’s possible to push passed this cap with special gear.

Once you reach level 20 you can no longer grow your character by simply gaining traditional XP. At this point you will start earning Motes of Light that can be used to purchase special gear that is equipped with the “Light” stat. This stat will allow you to push your character level and other stats higher than the 20 soft cap, so it appears that the more “Light” you have, the higher your level. However, your character sheet will still only show level 20, but the character select screen and your emblem will show your effective level.

In the video above, designer Sage Merrill shows IGN what a level 29 character can accomplish. Just how high you can push this level is unknown at this time.

Yesterday, Bungie writer Luke Smith revealed that Destiny’s high-end six-person raids will not support random matchmaking with strangers, and can only be attempted with five other players on your friends list.

Destiny is set to launch September 9 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
