Update: Bungie has made it official. An update is now available for Destiny that introduces the private match option.
Original story: Destiny‘s Rise of Iron expansion is bringing numerous changes and additions to the experience, but one feature seems to be coming prior to the expansion’s release.
Private multiplayer matches are now available in Destiny on current-gen consoles, according to an email sent out by developers. The feature’s early implementation was announced via email, but it is believed the email was sent out earlier than intended as the option is seemingly still absent from the game. The email was reportedly planned to go out around 11 a.m. PT, so players should expect the feature’s implementation around then.
Previously, random matchmaking was players’ only option in the game’s Crucible multiplayer zone, but soon groups of up to twelve can enjoy custom matches. The private matches offer 18 modes, almost 30 maps, and will be available to all players whether they purchased Rise of Iron or not.
Destiny‘s Rise of Iron expansion will feature tons of new content like new raids, new weapons, a new social space, and more. The expansion is launching September 20th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and fans can get an idea of what’s in store from the recently revealed trophy/achievement list.
