Details on the new version of the ESPN3 player, coming soon to Xbox 360

Posted on July 27, 2011 AT 03:30pm

Gizmodo recently got the chance to check out the new version of the ESPN3 player that is offered for the Xbox 360, and here are some of the details the were shown.

Like them or hate them, the virtual stadium that featured Xbox Avatars will now be gone, replaced by an interface that Gizmodo says looks more like a standard TV interface.

You’ll now be able to watch two games simultaneously in 720p, and control each independently using either a standard Xbox 360 controller or via voice commands through Kinect. There are also some interesting tricks that can be done with this; for example, one Microsoft rep stated that he recently used both feeds for the same game (World Cup final between the US and Japan), where one screen was kept as the “live” feed, and the other used to rewind and re-watch particularly exciting moments.

A new mini guide will be available, which will give you live updates on game info and current score without even needing to switch to that particular game. As well, you’ll be able to bring up a full live scoreboard on the right side of the screen. At launch, this scoreboard will only be active for college football, but later it’ll expand to other sports.

The new version of ESPN3 for Xbox 360 will launch on August 25th. For a video look at the new interface, hit the link below.
