Will voice chat be a part of the Wii U experience? Indeed it will—but that proclamation comes with a few catches.
Kotaku took a look at the Wii U’s support for voice chat, and here’s what they found:
- Voice chat support will be on a game-by-game basis. No overall system of voice chat support is currently built into the Wii U.
- As of now, the mic built into the Wii U GamePad cannot be used for voice chatting.
- Wired headsets will be coming, which will plug into the headphone jack of the GamePad. As of now, there are no plans for wireless headsets.
- Nintendo’s Pro Controller has no jack for headset support. So, if you’re using the Pro Controller but want to take part in voice chatting, you’ll need to plug your headset into the GamePad, and set it somewhere nearby while playing.
How do you feel about Nintendo’s current solutions for voice chatting? Enough for what you want/need, or do you wish they had a more expansive set-up to offer?
