Deus Ex: Human Revolution film still alive and kickin’, script undergoing rewrites

Posted on April 22, 2014 AT 10:25am

The Deus Ex: Human Revolution film is still in the works, currently undergoing script rewrites, director and co-writer Scott Derrickson informed IGN.

“It’s still alive, and I’m still involved as a director. It’s going through some more rewrites right now,” Derrickson told IGN. “It’s a tricky script to get just right.”

“The script that we wrote was clearly based on the Human Revolution game,” Derrickson added. “We worked hard with the game company to get aspects of the game that we knew would be important to fans of the game and the world and all of that. The upcoming game, the progression of games, there’s a little bit that filtered into the script, but not a lot.”

CBS Films and Eidos Montreal first announced plans to make a film adaptation of Human Revolution in 2012, a year after the game arrived on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 in the summer of 2011. Derrickson’s previous directorial works include Sinister and the 2008 The Day the Earth Stood Still remake. The film is being penned by both Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who worked with Derrickson on Sinister.

According to Derrickson and Cargill, the Deus Ex flick will be a cyberpunk film first and foremost as opposed to a videogame adaptation.
