Deus Ex: The Fall Weapons Won’t Fire on Jailbroken iOS Devices

Posted on July 11, 2013 AT 01:51pm

Deus Ex: The Fall renders itself inoperable on jailbroken iOS devices, reports players posting on Reddit and the game’s iTunes App Store page.

As soon as players gain control of protagonist of Ben Saxon and try to fire off a round, they are presented with a pop-up message that reads, “We are sorry but you can’t fire on jailbroken devices.”

“This is massively offensive on Square Enix’s behalf,” posted KipEnyan, the Reddit user who uploaded the screengrab seen above. “The obvious implication is that all jailbreakers are pirates who more than likely pirated this game. I paid good money for this game and [Square Enix] feels like it’s okay to break my game because I prefer to customize my iPhone to my liking.”

As per a ruling from the U.S. Copyright Office last fall, jailbreaking smartphones is perfectly legal. Square Enix has yet to comment on the issue.
