Time for some positive news for a change. Diablo III has smashed records to become the fastest selling PC game ever.

The game sold 3.5 million copies within its first 24 hours according to Activision Blizzard’s internal records, and reports from distribution partners. This total doesn’t include the 1.2 million who got a free copy via the World of Warcraft Annual Pass. 6.3 million copies were sold by the end of the first week.

“We’re definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo 3 and jump in the moment it went live,” said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. “We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo 3 players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support.”

It’s been a rough time for Blizzard over the last week, with server downtime, hacking claims and various other issues regarding the game. This should hopefully shine at least some positive light on the game for five minutes before the community gets angry again.
