Blizzard has announced that the first season of Diablo III‘s new ladder system will begin this Friday, August 29, following the release of patch 2.1 this week.

“To ensure the roll-out process goes as smoothly as possible for all players, we’re planning both a delayed and staggered release, with different gameplay regions launching the season at different times after patch 2.1.0 ships,” the developer wrote. A rundown of the start times in each region can be found below:

  • Asia: 1:00 a.m. KST (UTC +9)
  • Europe: 9:00 p.m CEST (UTC +2)
  • Americas: 6:00 p.m. PDT (UTC -10)

Players will need a free character slot to create a seasons hero, and both normal and hardcore options are available.

“Seasonal heroes are completely separate from your existing ones,” Blizzard explains. “This means they start from scratch, without access to your existing gold, blood shards, shared stash, Paragon levels, Artisan levels, crafting patterns, or items. Just as your Normal and Hardcore mode heroes have separately tracked progression, Seasons stand entirely on their own.”

Seasons offer players the chance to get brand new legendaries before anyone else, as well as a new armor set for transmoging.
