Talking to CVG, EA Games label executive vice president Patrick Söderlund described how the company was going to let a different studio handle Star Wars Battlefront until DICE “begged to do it.”
Söderlund says that DICE’s rather full development plate is what initially compelled the publisher to pursue a less busy studio, but as EA entered negotiations with Disney to make Star Wars games, “They [DICE] just looked at me and said,’ Why haven’t you spoken to us? What are you doing? We want to make Battlefront,” Söderlund told CVG.
“They were just like, ‘We would kill to make this game,’ and the whole studio started talking about it like, ‘Please give us this game,'” Söderlund described.
“[Dice] begged to do it, the opportunity was there, and that’s exactly why you’ll see a game that will be what it needs to be,” he added.
DICE’s Battlefront was teased with a short CG trailer during Microsoft’s pre-E3 press conference. Beyond it’s existence, absolutely no information about the title is currently available—no release window, platforms, nada.
