DICE Comments On PlayStation 3 Input Lag – More Patch Details

THE BUZZ: PlayStation 3 players received a Battlefield 3 update yesterday which fixed the ViOP issues that have plagued the title since beta, but what about the input lag?

DICE’s Community Manager, Daniel Matros, commented on concerns over a PlayStation 3 input lag fix: “Sorry but we’re still working on it. No updates from my end unfortunately.”

Matros also mentioned that MAV riding will be fixed in the next major Battlefield 3 update for all systems. For those unaware, this is a glitch that allows players to stand on top of the MAV and ride it up to otherwise unreachable areas, giving them an unfair advantage. “There will be a fix for Mav riding later on,” he said.

Senior Designer, Fredrik Thylander, has also mentioned that a fix is in the works for laser targeting, which should make its corresponding medal much easier to obtain. “We aren’t fixing the medal, we are fixing the actual laser targeting,” he mentioned on Twitter. Finally he added that the suppression ribbon will be made easier to obtain: “Suppression ribbon is getting easier to get. Flag ribbons are about right actually.”

Yesterday several other patch details were revealed including tweaks to USAS-12 Shotgun, Mortar and M-COM ribbons.

EGM’s TAKE: The PlayStation 3 input lag has plagued users for months now. Luckily not all players suffer from it and it’s not enough to make the game unplayable, but it’s still going to annoy. The only explanation for the lack of a fix must be that it’s incredibly difficult, it’s hard to believe that DICE has just put it on the back burner. The MAV rider glitch has been around for a while now, and while annoying isn’t widely used due to you only being able to fly straight up while riding it, if you were able to ride it across the map then it would have been much more serious. DICE is working hard to ensure balance in the game and so far has been doing a fantastic job.
