DICE Reveals Why Animations Look So Good with Frostbite 2.0 in Battlefield 3

THE BUZZ: Karl-Magnus Troedsson, General Manager at DICE, has explained how the Frostbite 2.0 engine delivers such amazing animations in Battlefield 3.
According to him the company it obsessed with visuals, but they don’t want to just provide detailed images, they want to produce the most realistic animation possible. Luckily for them EA already had everything they needed to achieve this. “We were surprised and happy to discover that it was in the EA Sports games,” he said. “So we worked with the sports team, we worked with a group within EA called EA Tech, and we implemented the ANT animation system into Frostbite 2 – we’re the first FPS to be using this animation technology, and for us, it’s a big, big difference; how the soldiers move, how they go into cover, how they look under suppressing fire … it really takes you out of the uncanny valley.”
EGM’s TAKE: Frostbite 2.0 is truly an impressive engine and we can’t wait to see what DICE can do with it in the future.
