DICE – Working On PC Version of Battlefield 3 Allowed Team to Push Console Limits

THE BUZZ: Patrick Bach, Executive Producer at DICE, explains how developing Battlefield 3 for PCs has benefited the console version greatly.
Bach explained how PC development allowed the team to push the limited technology in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360:
“Our biggest benefit for the console has been that we’re leading on PC,” said Bach. “It has forced us to push the limited technology of consoles compared to the PC to a new level, because we set the bar with what we wanted to create on PC and said, ‘How the heck are we going to do this on consoles?’”
DICE was allowed to remove anything that wasn’t essential to the console versions in order to make it run well:
“You know it’s easier for you to make those decisions when you have a robust PC build to look at, and the console versions look great because of the PC,” he said.
EGM’s TAKE: DICE has pushed all three platforms with Battlefield 3, and hopefully the sales will reflect what they have achieved.
