Various sites are reporting that LulzSec has hacked Xbox Live, getting a list of 62,000 or so names and password. Did this actually happen, do you have anything to worry about, and how can you check if you’re okay?
From our looking into the story, it seems that, yes, a new batch of user accounts have been compromised. However, we have NO reason to believe that these accounts are indeed Xbox Live accounts. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t worry, however.
The reason for that is simple: many times, people use the same user name and password for a variety of sites. If you are guilty of that, then it is possible that if your account information from one site was leaked, and you use the same name and password on Xbox Live, you could be affected.
The way to stop that from happening is simple: never use the same password more than once. Have all your accounts have their own unique password, that way in case anything does happen your other accounts won’t be compromised.
If you want to find out if you were affected by this latest hacking, go to http://dazzlepod.com/lulzsec/ and use their search to check for user names that you commonly use.
