Microsoft has announced that the latest version of DirectX, 11.1, will remain exclusive to Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Server 2012.
The company has said that it has no plans to retrofit the 3D graphics API for older systems meaning that Windows 7 users will have to stick with version 11, missing out on several new features. “DirectX 11.1 is part of Windows 8, just like DirectX 11 was part of Windows 7. DirectX 11 was made available for Vista, but at this point there is no plan for DirectX 11.1 to be made available on Windows 7,” Microsoft employee Daniel Moth said on the Microsoft Answers forum.
