DiRT Showdown 8-Ball Gameplay

THE BUZZ: Codemasters has released a new gameplay video for DiRT showdown which showcases the 8-Ball event.
EGM’s TAKE: The 8-Ball is a demolition derby event set on a figure of eight circuit, which sees drivers crossing each others path on every lap, with the aim being to either win the race or be the last car left running. Codemasters’ official description of the event: ”The stage is a dirty, dusty circuit in the sun-baked Nevada desert where eight racers perform in front of the crowd, taking on jumps and dangerous crossover points as they jostle for position against a backdrop of fireworks and fire cannons.”
8-Ball also features a nitrous boost mechanic something that previous DiRT games has lacked and only adds to the high impact racing that destruction derby induces. Showdown is an arcade-style mix of extreme sports, Gymkhana and Destruction Derby. However, the new style does mean, “a simpler arcade feel that should make keeping your car on the track and performing outrageous stunts much easier.” Which could annoy a lot of DiRT’s core fanbase. If you’re a fan of Codemaster’s other racer GRID, then you will love this.
Is the move to an arcade-style a good one? Leave your thoughts below.
