Dishonored ‘Tales From Dunwall’ Prequel Takes A Look At The Past

Dunwall, the decaying industrial city of Dishonored, runs on whale fat, a mysterious source of energy that powers all the isles in the game’s world. However, the game itself doesn’t tell how that discovery’s made.
With two weeks to go until launch, Bethesda is filling in the gaps in their upcoming title’s mythology with a series of short animated films titled “The Tales from Dunwall”—a recollection of the events that lead into the game’s timeline.
Narrated by Kick-Ass star Chloe Grace Moretz (Hit Girl), the first episode covers the late life of Esmond Roseburrow, an inventor and philosopher who founded most of the game’s technology.
As it turns out, the sheer rush of advancement eventually tore Dunwall apart, when the city had once been a thriving metropolis.
But in a few short years, everything is torn apart when that same technology allows the rise of a totalitarian police.
That alone, plus the massacre of innocent civilians due to disease and poverty, leads Roseburrow to end his own life. If anything, that likely means by the time protagonist Corvo Attano is around, the city’s most important figure is long gone.
