Disney Interactive and Area 52 Games have announced Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, a free-to-play space combat game for PC.

Attack Squadrons will allow players to pilot, customize, and upgrade “popular Star Wars ships” such as X-Wings and TIE Fighters. The game will support up to 16 fighters across three PvP modes:

  • Free For All: A 16-fighter deathmatch
  • Team Dogfight: Two teams of up to eight players
  • Base Defense: Two teams must defend their base while attacking the enemy’s

Players will earn points at the end of each match, which can be used to purchase upgrades and customization options for their ships. The developer is promising new ships, items, and upgrades every month once the game is released.

A beta for the game is scheduled to begin early 2014, and interested players can sign up for it here.
