Disney Interactive has started sending out beta invites for its upcoming free-to-play space shooter, Star Wars: Attack Squadrons.

The beta test will run from January 28 and requires at least Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.6 with 4GB of RAM. Attack Squadrons is in development at Area 52 Games, and will allow players to pilot, customize, and upgrade “popular Star Wars ships” such as X-Wings and TIE Fighters.

The game supports up to 16 players across three game modes: Free For All, Team Dogfight, and Base Defense. Players will earn points at the end of each match which can be spent on upgrades and customization options for each ship.
