Divekick Cancels Kickstarter Campaign, Now Backed By Mystery Publisher

Usually, any Kickstarter fundraiser getting canceled is bad news for all of its backers, and signals the death of the related project involved. Luckily, cult hit fighting game Divekick isn’t like all of those other sissy Kickstarter projects, as they’re canceling their own fundraiser for the best possible reason we can imagine.

According to project creator Adam Heart, the cancelation of “Bring DIVEKICK to PC” occurred because the game has actually found a publisher to distribute it:

Though we will be canceling the Kickstarter, and thus will not be taking your money, we are going to make good on most of your offers to back us. Though we cannot honor game pre-orders or mail out T-shirts without taking money in, we do want each of the 800+ of you willing to back our game to be able to have some ownership in it. Check below to see your specific backer level and in what way we will honor it, and then check your Kickstarter Private Messages and reply to us to get us the details we request concerning your involvement with the project.

And exactly who is the mysterious company backing the tournament scene smash hit?

Well, that’s a mystery. But, as a result, the Kickstarter fund is canceled, all the backers will be holding onto their money, and most of the perks that were part of the deal are going to be reassessed.

Prior to being canceled, Divekick‘s Kickstarter had been fully funded at $32,543 by 815 backers, with two of them forking over $3000 to be made a playable character—hopefully, they at least get some shirts.
