A response to one of the questions posed in Bungie’s latest Mail Sack feature suggests that their upcoming online shooter Destiny might contain microtransactions in some capacity.
When asked by “Steampunkmasked” whether the developer was planning to implement “real-life money” purchases, Bungie offered up an unattributed response (when several other questions were answered by various named members of Bungie’s team) that, largely, sidestepped a direct answer altogether.
“What we can tell you right now is that the rewards you will gain by playing Destiny—and playing it well—will be earned,” Bungie wrote. “You will carve them from the hides of your enemies, after you stomp them into the ground of your favorite destinations.”
If true, the inclusion of microtransactions would no doubt be wholly at the insistence of publisher and partner Activision—they recently added microtransactions to Call of Duty: Black Ops II (and presumably future installments of the series).
Destiny is set to launch on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3 sometime 2014.
