Following Destiny 2‘s recent gameplay reveal event, Bungie made some suggestive comments alluding to the possibility of wielding akimbo weapons in the sequel.
In an interview with Gamertag Radio, project lead Mark Noseworthy was discussing Destiny 2‘s new format for weapon slots. Instead of the previous weapon slots of Primary, Special, and Heavy, the new game will divide weapons into Kinetic, Energy, and Power. This new format will allow for potential overlap of weapon types, such as holding both a Kinetic hand cannon and an Energy hand cannon, regarding which Noseworthy made a curious comment.
“The reason we’ve done this is because it gives players more choice, right, you can play the way you want to play, and really change things up,” Noseworthy said. “You know, we might even have some interesting interactions between weapons sometimes.”
Noseworthy didn’t elaborate any further, but the comment quickly got fans speculating on what these interactions could be. The leading theory currently among fans is that certain weapons can be dual-wielded if equipped at the same time, but another possibility is that stat bonuses will be granted to certain weapons when paired with others.
In other Destiny 2 news, Bungie recently explained why the sequel would not support dedicated servers for multiplayer, despite community demand for the feature.
Destiny 2 is slated to launch September 8th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC launch coming at a later date.
