Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata revealed Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will be available for 3DS May 24.
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is a 3DS remake of the 2010 Wii version. The title won’t simply be a 3D port, however—it will feature New Mode and some changes to the game balance in order to “better optimize [the game] for portable playability.”
According to Iwata, New Mode’s difficulty gives Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong three hearts instead of two, and take five hits from enemies. They’ll also gain new items, such as portable barrels, and more green balloons. All of this is designed to cater to shorter play sessions on the portable console.
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will also feature an Original Mode, too, which mirrors the experience of the Wii version, and a new, original world with eight levels unlocked after completing the main game.
