Doom Returns to Xbox Live Arcade

Posted on January 18, 2012 AT 03:39pm

THE BUZZ: If you’ve always wanted to get your Doom on via your Xbox 360, but never purchased the game before it was pulled in late 2010, your time has come again.

EGM’s TAKE: Typically when we do stories about games being pulled from digital download services like the Xbox Live Arcade, there’s never a happy ending. Something happens—licensing expires, ownership rights change hands, companies go out of business—and at that point, if you never purchased the game, it’s gone for good.

Today, however, brings good news. In October of 2010, the XBLA version of Doom was pulled from the service due to rights issues when Zenimax acquired id Software. While there was a promise that the game would return, for a long time it didn’t—until today.

I’m not sure why getting the game back up has taken so long, but the good news is it’s back.
