Double Fine Regains Rights to Costume Quest and Stacking

Posted on November 26, 2013 AT 10:54am

Rights to Costume Quest and Stacking have been restored to Double Fine and will be receiving retail releases through previous rights holder Nordic Games, the companies announced today.

Costume Quest and Stacking, both developed by Double Fine Productions, were published by THQ in 2010 and 2011 respectively. After THQ’s bankruptcy auction in April, Nordic Games acquired the rights to both games as part of their $4.9 million acquisition of various THQ assets.

“I am pleased that we have regained full control over Costume Quest and Stacking, following a daring and top-secret midnight raid on the Nordic Games headquarters in Vienna,” Double Fine president and CEO Tim Schafer said in a press release.

In addition to retail versions of Costume Quest and Stacking, Double Fine is working with Nordic to bring Psychonauts to Windows PC and Mac as a retail release in North America and Europe.

“We can’t wait to partner with Double Fine for this upcoming retail launch of three of its most excellent games,” Nordic Games owner and CEO Lars Wingefors said. “However, I feel compelled to point out that we were happy to transfer distribution rights for Costume Quest and Stacking back to Double Fine in an entirely non-secretive and heist-free manner.”

Double Fine and Nordic aim to release retail versions of all three games during the first half of 2014.
