According to Vanillaware’s founder, George Kamitani, Dragon’s Crown is the most expensive game developed by the studio to date.

Dragon’s Crown is actually the first title our company has developed that has gone over the 100 million yen (around one million dollars) wall in costs,” Kamitani stated on Twitter (translated by Gematsu). “I’m very thankful to have met the release date without problems.”

Vanillaware’s latest began its life 13 years ago, when it was intended for release on the Sega Dreamcast. Design work on Dragon’s Work began shortly after Kamitani finished Princess Crown for the Sega Saturn.

Dragon’s Crown launches on PS3 and PS Vita August 6 in North America.
