The third installment of Square Enix’s action-RPG series Drakengard will launch exclusively for PlayStation 3 in North America next year, the company announced today.

Drakengard 3 marks the first new entry in the series since Drakengard 2 in 2005, as well as the 10th anniversary of the Drakengard series itself. The third entry actually serves as a prequel that leads up to the events of the first Drakengard, and revolves around protagonist Zero, who is tasked with killing her five younger sisters with the aid of her dragon companion Mikhail.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Square Enix senior product manager Sakura Minamida revealed that Drakengard 3‘s soundtrack will be scored by Keichi Okabe, the man behind the music in Nier.

You can check out Drakengard 3‘s melodramatic, story-oriented trailer in the video embed below.
