An upcoming Gran Turismo 6 update will allow players to drive the legendary Ayrton Senna’s Lotus 97T Formula One car, as well as test their skills against his best lap times.

Once the free content update has been downloaded on May 27, players will find a new Ayrton Senna section on the main menu. Inside here players will find two Senna challenges, and earning bronze or better in any will unlock the Lotus 97T that Senna drove during his second Formula 1 season in 1985. Players also have the option of purchasing the car with in-game credits.

As well as the Lotus, players will have access to one of Senna’s first go-karts, built by DAP.

Two challenges are available with this update: The Monza circuit with its 1985 layout and the Brands Hatch circuit, also with its 1985 layout. Players much beat Senna’s pole position times of 1’25.084 and 1’07.169 respectively.

“To racing fans around the world, the name Senna evokes a range of emotions. This speaks volumes about what Ayrton Senna represents to so many people. For me, he is a personal hero; someone who inspired me to go on the course I am on today,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Turismo and President of Polyphony Digital, Inc.

“I am honored to be able to introduce him to the younger generation of racing fans through Gran Turismo. I feel it is a responsibility and privilege to continue his work and legacy through the Ayrton Senna Institute and am grateful to be able to do my part in fulfilling his wish to improve the lives of the millions of children who are supported by the Institute.”
