Dying Light 2 will have multiplayer, but no battle royale mode, according to lead designer Tymon Smektala.
Speaking to GameSpot, Smektala confirmed that the game will not have a battle royale mode, but did tease some “surprises” for players who like to play multiplayer.
“Dying Light 2 doesn’t have a battle royale mode…that’s not the thing we are focusing on,” he said. “But of course we are looking at what is happening on the market, and I think we will have some surprises for people that like to play multiplayer.”
It’s odd that the upcoming sequel will not contain a battle royale mode when the original game will be getting one soon with the release of Dying Light: Bad Blood. Bad Blood is scheduled to launch later this year and tasks players with killing zombies to fill up a sample vial with infected blood. Once one player has filled their vial, the chopper will come to pick them up. At this point all players will need to collect enough samples to earn a seat on the chopper. Players can either quickly kill zombies or murder another player and steal their samples.
Dying Light 2 was officially unveiled earlier this week during Microsoft’s press conference and is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
