Nintendo President Satoru Iwata hosted a pre-E3 presentation last night, talking about the New Wii U controller and how it’s improved from the prototype model shown at E3 2011.
Not only is the Wii U Pad (WiiPad?) larger that the initial model, but a number of new elements have been added to make the device easier and more comfortable to handle. Here’s a quick breakdown of the changes:
- Two clickable analogue sticks (no more circle pads).
- Rounded grips on the rear of the WiiPad.
- Face buttons and D-pad are now closer to the Wii U screen “to maximize comfort” for long play periods.
- A “TV Button” has been added that turns the WiiPad into an infrared remote for your actual TV.
Additionally, a scanner has been implemented for scanning real-life objects (like Skylander toys) into certain games.
