On the heels of New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo took the time to show off New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Nintendo 3DS.

Many of the clips showed Mario collecting a truly obscene number of coins; one of the new power-ups being a super fireball that seemed to result in a shower of coins with every shot.

However, it was the sight of the Super Mario Bros. 3‘s raccoon tail—last seen in last year’s Super Mario 3D Land—that drew cheers and applause from the crowd. Even better, it can once again be used to fly, rather than simply floating downward.

Nintendo concluded by confirming that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be available on the Nintendo 3DS on August 19.
