E3 2012: Nintendo Producer On Larger Screen For 3DS, Smash Bros Wii U
Posted on June 9, 2012 AT 01:54pm
Even though the Nintendo 3DS is finally selling at a pretty steady clip, anticipation of a redesign is still fresh in everyone’s mind. That includes Nintendo’s own Hideki Konno, who thinks the DSi XL’s large screen is one of the better things the DS line has done.
While talking with Engadget at E3 2012 this week, the long-time producer of several Mario titles acknowledged that the larger screen is “much easier” to look at. He’s definitely not wrong, and considering that many 3DS owners have vocally stressed the discomfort of dealing with the 3DS’ small screen (plus the headache-inducing 3D effects), it would certainly behoove Nintendo to have a new, larger model out for the holidays—especially one with an extra Circle Pad.
Konno also referenced a bunch of things in the works at Nintendo, stating that it would make sense for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (rumored to be titled Super Smash Bros. Universe) to feature crossover content with the 3DS version as well.
When asked about the Miiverse’ social features, Konno hinted that they could be showing up on the 3DS and mobile apps, and not just for the console. That depends on well the Miiverse is received, probably referencing how the network handles censoring.
