E3 2012: Nintendo Wii U May Be Adding HBO Go To Its Online Content

Compared to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii’s online content offerings are pretty lightweight—but that may change after E3 2012 is over. According to a job posting seen over at Time Warner’s careers site, HBO’s streaming content service is looking like an extremely possible addition to the Wii U’s online features.

In the job posting, Nintendo is listed alongside Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung, and Roku as current partners in the “HBO Partner” program. Since the Wii isn’t the only Nintendo console with streaming content, it’s also extremely possible that the Nintendo 3DS may be hosting HBO Go in the same way it has Netflix streaming access.

Here’s a clip of text from the job posting in question, which was originally uploaded on May 30th:

The Partner Manager position is responsible for the day-to-day relationship and ongoing marketing activities with several key Mobile, Tablet, Connected TV and Game Console digital partners for HBO GO and MAX GO. Partners include Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Samsung, Roku, as well as any new partners that will launch HBO/MAX GO in the future. Position is responsible for the day-to-day development, management, and execution of all marketing activities with these partners.
How about it? If anything, the original Nintendo Wii suffered in the long run from not having the wealth of online features the Xbox 360 or PS3 eventually gained access to—hopefully, this is just one of many brand new ventures for the Wii U.
