E3 2012: Ubisoft Shows Off Far Cry 3′s Combat

Ubisoft’s press conference hosted a lengthy Far Cry 3 gameplay sequence, showing off the single-player combat and destructive environments. As suspected, the entire archipelago is treated as an open-world environment in the game, and the free range of movement allows for a wide variety of kill methods.

As the demo took us through an enemy camp, the action started with swimming to a nearby dock, dragging an enemy off a pier, and stabbing him in the chest. For much of the rest of the area, a bow and arrow was used to dispatch more enemies deeper into the lush tropical environment.

More interesting kills involved grenade-ing a flamethrower trooper, exploding his tank, and then knifing him in the back. Even animals can alter the battleground, as a released tiger got caught up in the firefight.
