THE BUZZ: Electronic Arts has acquired social RPG developer KlickNation. KlickNation was responsible for such social RPGs as Superhero City, Age of Champions, and Six Gun Galaxy. Co-founder of KlickNation, Mark Otero had this to say in the press release “Joining with BioWare and EA is an opportunity to realize our vision for bringing high-quality RPG titles to the fast-growing, highly-engaged core gamers looking for deeper experiences on social platforms.” With the acquisition, KlickNation will get folded into EA’s profilo of developers and get homogeneously renamed Bioware Sacramento.
EGM’s TAKE: Big publisher eats small developer, it’s the way of the industry these days. The biggest disappointment of this deal has to be how the world suffers from losing a name like KlickNation. It sounded like nerdy marching band. Bioware Sacramento brings the weighty cache of the Bioware brand but loses a bit of personality in the process.
