EA hires Starbucks marketing wizard to work his magic in service to their games

Chris Bruzzo, former vice president of marketing and public relations at Amazon and a similar role at Starbucks, is Electronic Arts’ new chief marketing manager, EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced.

“Chris is a great fit for our organization,” Wilson wrote in a post on EA’s The Beat blog, “a collaborator, innovator, and importantly, a gamer. Chris is just as comfortable sharing stories about his days playing Escape from Rungistan and Ultima back in the early 1980s on his Apple IIE as he is debating tactics in FIFA, Battlefield or Peggle. I’m thrilled to bring him on board at EA.”

Supposing Bruzzo’s gamer cred doesn’t impress you, as a businessman, he was vice president of digital strategy at Starbucks from 2007 to 2008, pioneering such platforms as the My Starbucks Idea community website. His efforts at compelling us to drink severely burnt coffee more frequently and gather around its water cooler as though the hip thing to do rapidly expanded Starbucks Twitter followers—no doubt the shiniest bullet point that caught EA’s eye when pouring over his credentials.
