EA On Shooting Cops in Battlefield 3 – Millions of Lives Are at Stake

THE BUZZ: EA has provided an explanation for why players have to shoot Police Officers in order to complete one of the missions in Battlefield 3.

The ESRB mentioned the follwing scene:

“In one sequence, a restrained character’s throat is slit (off-screen); in another, players shoot police officers to complete a mission objective. The words ‘f***’ and ‘s***’ can be heard frequently in the dialogue.”

“I don’t think you understand the gravity of the situation. For God’s sake, there is a nuke in Paris! Millions of lives are at stake!!” EA told Eurogamer. ”If you put the player in front of a choice where they can do good things or bad things, they will do bad things, go dark side… We have to build our experiences so we don’t put the player in experiences where they can do bad things.

“We are trying to do something that is more mature. Mature not being gore – some people confuse the two. That’s childish actually, to want more blood,” they added.

EGM’s TAKE: Fans want games to be on par with cinema, but no one questions it when a Police officer gets shot in a film? Why in games?

How do you feel about he scene? Leave your thoughts below.
